If you’ve been hanging around here for a while, you probably know I have a thing for billionaires.
Complicated billionaires.
Stubborn billionaires.
Emotionally constipated billionaires who are absolutely certain they have their lives under control until one woman walks into the room and destroys the entire system.
I make no apologies for this.
Right now, I’m having entirely too much fun working on Tempting the Billionaire and watching Julian Cross discover that Elena Bennett is not nearly as manageable as he would prefer her to be.
But there’s something you might not know about me.
Cynthia Savage isn’t my only pen name.
And apparently, when I need a break from billionaires in expensive suits, my solution is not to write something calm and reasonable.
No.
I write werewolves—among other things.
Very sexy, very powerful, very emotionally complicated werewolves.
Because obviously.
Meet Angelina Avery
I write steamy speculative romance under the name Angelina Avery, and lately Angelina has been getting increasingly loud in my head.
My current obsession is a new Werewolf Academy romance series, and when I say this story has taken over a portion of my brain, I mean I am currently spending an unreasonable amount of time thinking about ancient bloodlines, supernatural politics, corporate empires, fated mates, murdered Alphas, secret identities, and exactly how angry two people can be while simultaneously being extremely attracted to each other.
You know.
Normal author things.
And at the center of all this chaos are Roman Vesper and Mara Ellison.
Oh, these two.
Meet Mara: The Girl Who Shouldn’t Be There
Mara arrives at Lunaris Academy as something of an impossibility.
She doesn't belong to one of the powerful Houses. She doesn't have a pack. She can't shift. As far as the supernatural world is concerned, she's a Hollow, someone without the connection that should make her a true wolf.
And yet, somehow, she's been admitted to one of the most powerful institutions in their world under mysterious special authorization.
Mara would very much like everyone to stop asking questions about that. Unfortunately for her, Roman Vesper exists, and Roman has questions.
Lots of them.
Mara responds to those questions primarily with sarcasm.
This is one of the many reasons I love her.
And Then There’s Roman...
Roman is the heir to House Scorpio, a future Alpha, and a man who has spent his entire life being prepared for power.
He's controlled. Strategic. Suspicious.
He's also absolutely accustomed to understanding the rules of his world.
Then Mara walks onto campus. She has no House, no pack, no obvious reason for being at Lunaris, and, as far as Roman can tell, no lunar connection that should make what happens next remotely possible.
Because Roman recognizes her.
His mate.
There is only one problem.
Mara shouldn't be capable of being anyone's mate, and Roman does not like things he cannot explain. Even worse, he doesn't like anything that feels as though it might be controlling him.
So instead of thinking, Wonderful! I've found my fated mate!
Roman essentially thinks, Absolutely not. Someone is manipulating me.
Which is going about as well as you might imagine.
My Favorite Kind of Romance Problem
This is probably the part where my Cynthia Savage readers will realize that perhaps my billionaire romances and my Angelina Avery books aren't actually as different as they appear.
Because underneath all the wolves and magic and supernatural politics, I apparently have a type.
Give me a powerful man who thinks he is completely in control of his life. Then give me the one woman who makes that control absolutely impossible to hold onto. Roman has been raised to become an Alpha. His relationships aren't simply personal. They affect House alliances, succession, businesses, pack politics, and power.
Mara doesn't care mostly because Mara doesn't even believe she belongs in his world, and the harder Roman tries to understand her, the more impossible she becomes.
From Billionaire Boardrooms to Werewolf Academies
One of the things I've realized lately is how much I love being able to move between these worlds.
With Cynthia Savage, I get banter, billionaires, fake relationships, ridiculous romantic situations, stubborn heroines, and happily-ever-afters.
With Angelina Avery?
I get to turn the dial considerably darker and steamier.
I can play with destiny and power, ancient secrets, dangerous attraction, supernatural hierarchies, and fated mates who would occasionally prefer fate to mind its own business.
Roman and Mara's story has given me an enormous playground for all of it.
The funny thing is that the heart of the stories remains the same. I still want that moment when two people who absolutely should not work somehow become inevitable. I still want the yearning and the oh no, I have feelings moment.
I just occasionally want claws involved.
So... Would You Follow Me to the Dark Side?
I'm curious.
If you normally read my Cynthia Savage billionaire romances, would you ever venture into a steamy paranormal romance with me?
Because I have a feeling I'm going to start sharing a little more of what happens behind the scenes with Angelina Avery, especially as Roman and Mara continue making spectacularly questionable decisions at Lunaris, and trust me, they are only getting started.
For now, I'll be bouncing happily between two worlds: Julian and Elena attempting to survive billionaire romance logic, and Roman and Mara attempting to survive fate, supernatural politics, and each other.
Apparently, this is what balance looks like in an author's life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
